While our scriptures, from beginning to end, call us to be people of faith, the scriptures also witness to our experience of fear. We see this in the gospel of Mark, chapter 4, as we worship this Sunday. Jesus calms the raging waters, but his disciples respond in fear, wondering who he is. How do we respond?

At the 11am service, we will also recognize and bless the "Membership Connection Team" of First UMC. This team, over the past several months, has attempted to establish connections with members of the church who, for whatever reason, have become disconnected from the church. I am grateful for the ministry of this team and the effort to reconnect with those of this community of faith.

On Monday afternoon, leaders of a ministry known as "The Jericho Project" will visit First UMC and the Early Learning Center. "The Jericho Project" is a ministry for children, a ministry much like a portable Vacation Bible School.  The leaders of this ministry will bring a trailer full of crafts, snacks, games, and other supplies. "The Jericho Project" uses such materials at various sites around this area so as to share of the gospel with children. So on Monday afternoon, we at the church will have the opportunity to see this ministry in operation, as well as see if this is a ministry we feel led to pursue. All are welcome to come see "The Jericho Project!"

The exciting ministry of "Small Hands, Big Mission" takes place next weekend in the Uptown Ministry Center. From Friday to Saturday, rising 4th-7th graders will share in a variety of mission and worship experiences. Thank you for your support of this ministry and remember the children and leaders in prayer.

Remember the opportunity to support the Vacation Bible School of FUMC as it approaches in July. Items you may contribute to VBS are found in the church bulletin or on the church website.

The church picnic is always a highlight of the church year. I hope see you at the picnic at Fieldale Park at 5:30 next Tuesday.
