Be in Our Gathering
In worship a few weeks ago, Vicki Harm and Linda Adams presented a wonderful report in which they celebrated the inspired repair work being performed on home of Jaclyn Littlefeather. That work continues this coming Saturday. The work begins at 7am and is scheduled to continue until 3pm. Among the work to be done: insulation of attic and basement, replace two windows, close in portion of back porch, fix back porch framing and hole at bottom of front porch door, painting, replacing rear steps. All are invited; skilled labor is not required! Contact Vicki or Linda if you have questions.
I look forward to a reception welcoming our new Director of Music Ministries, Jill Gardner, this Sunday. The reception will take place in the fellowship hall following the 11am service. Jill's husband, Jake, who sang so powerfully in worship last Sunday, will also be here for worship and the reception. Thanks to Nancy Bryant and the Hospitality Committee for coordinating this reception; I look forward to seeing you there.
The Kick-off for Youth and JAMZ (Jesus and Me Zone) ministries takes place following worship on Sunday in the Uptown Ministry Center. Youth and older elementary children and families are invited to play "Minute to Win it" and enjoy other activities and snacks!
During worship this Sunday, we also celebrate with the music of local composer, Sandra Ford. Sandra will be with us for worship, as her anthem "Be In Our Gathering" is offered at 11am. As we remember our service to those in this community, Marla Perry of Albert Harris Elementary School will be with us at each service to speak of this partnership in which we help students at AHES by way of food and school supplies. I am grateful to have worked with Marla and am grateful for her work and witness, a witness which will also involve the blessings of backpacks at each service of worship.
You may have heard by now the news that Maegan Mitchell, our Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, will be leaving us. Maegan is leaving to serve on the staff at Bethlehem UMC in Moneta. Her last Sunday at FUMC will be September 9. Remember Maegan and her family in prayers as they prepare for a new beginning of ministry in Moneta. Also remember members of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee of FUMC. SPRC will meet on Wednesday, August 29, to address the ministries of the church as we go forward.
Again, the "Living Faithfully" study begins at FUMC on September 18. We know this is a timely and important conversation for this and for other communities of faith in the United Methodist Church. I am convinced this study will be of great reward in many ways for all who take part in it. I hope you will.
