Music Ministry
At First United Methodist Church, music is more than tradition - it's a living, breathing part of how we connect with God and one another. Whether you're three or 103, there's a place for your voice, your instrument, your spirit. From the joyful energy of our Children's Choir to the timeless beauty of our Chancel Choir, we're building a vibrant, multigenerational ministry rooted in excellence, outreach, and faith. Come find your place in our song.
The Lightkeepers (Ages 5–10)
Our youngest voices light up the church with joy, laughter, and spirit. Meeting Mondays from 4:00–5:00 PM as part of The Early Learning Center's after-school program, and also children and friends from our congregation, The Lightkeepers learn the basics of rhythm, melody, and worship through fun, age-appropriate music. This ensemble sings periodically in Sunday worship and seasonal programs, helping children grow in confidence, faith, and community. No prior experience needed - just a willing heart and a love of music!
The Wesley Singers (Ages 11–18)
Launching in Fall 2025, The Wesley Singers will bring fresh energy and purpose to our youth music ministry. This ensemble is designed for middle and high school students who love to sing and want to use their voices to inspire, serve, and grow. Rehearsals will blend vocal technique, dynamic repertoire, and spiritual development, preparing the group to participate in worship, concerts, and potential community outreach events. Open to all with a heart for music - no auditions required.
The Foundry Praise Team (All Ages – Audition-Based)
The Foundry Praise Team is FUMC Martinsville's contemporary worship band, kicking off in 2026. This ensemble will participate from time to time in worship by adding a blended musical element with heart, excellence, and authenticity and eventually offering a new worship service for members of the community interested in this style. Drawing its name from the original Methodist meeting house in London, The Foundry symbolizes transformation - where music becomes ministry and worship ignites community. Open to vocalists and instrumentalists by audition.
The Chancel Choir (Adults – No Audition Required)
Rooted in tradition, lifted by grace - the Chancel Choir anchors our worship with sacred music drawn from centuries of faith and beauty. This adult ensemble rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM (taking a break in July) and sings regularly in Sunday worship, special services, and seasonal celebrations. Open to all adults with a love for choral singing, the Chancel Choir is a welcoming place to grow musically, spiritually, and communally - no audition required.
Musical Theater at FUMC (Launching Spring 2026)
Beginning Winter 2025, FUMC Martinsville will debut a new musical theater ministry - an inspired space where faith and the performing arts come alive. Under the direction of Dr. Jamie Eggleston, whose extensive background includes productions such as The Sound of Music, The Music Man, Bye Bye Birdie, State Fair, Godspell, and many more, this program will offer children, youth, and adults the chance to explore the stage in a supportive, purpose-driven inter-generational environment.
This program will blend strong artistic standards with spiritual formation and fun. Whether you're a seasoned performer or stepping into the spotlight for the first time, this ministry invites you to be part of something joyful, expressive, and transformative. Audition and performance details coming this winter!
